Giving high fives like Ryan Secrest
Wowzers what a week, although my week wasn't as "earth shattering " as Tyler's ....hahahahhaah...It was sooo good!
Let me just say that so many funny things happen to us every day. This week a funny thing happened that really got me in the Christmas spirit. There we were, walking to an appointment, then appeared such a clatter. I looked over to see what was the matter. When all of the sudden, out of nowhere appeared, little Saint Nick and one tiny reindeer. Well....actually it was a man being pulled in a plastic wheelchair at break neck speeds around the city by his dog. You don't see that every day.
The city really is bustling with Christmas joy. It's SO FUN! Last night we did a gesso in centro and there were a millliiioooonnnnn people. The best. It's great to talk to everyone about Christmas and really get into the spirit of things. I can't believe this week is Christmas!!!!!
So a little about this past week. What a blast. Let me explain the subject of this email. We went to the house of a lady in our ward to help her give a Book of Mormon to her cleaning lady. It went well and Sorella Sebastiani was so happy! As soon as her friend left I looked at Sorella Sebastiani and I said, "Sorella, that went great! Give me five!" There would have been no problem with this except I had briefly forgotten that Sorella Sebastiani is pretty much blind... I just stood there with my hand out for a little bit until my sweet companion looked at me like, "Sorella Brunson, what is wrong with you?!" She grabbed Sorella Sebastianis hand and helped her give me a high five. Hahahah. Sorella Sebastiani is literally like my Italian grandma so it wasn't a big deal at all, but it was pretty funny. I know I’m not the only one to do this. You can watch Ryan Secrest on American Idol try and give a blind person a high five if you look it up on YouTube. It's priceless.
This week was my last zone conference. It didn't feel real at all. Mostly because I still have like 6 weeks till I come home so it didn't feel like it was actually my last conference. We gave a training as stls and zone leaders and talked about teaching about the atonement of Jesus Christ. The spirit was so strong and I was able to bear my testimony of Jesus Christ. It was wonderful! Then I had to do my "death testimony" which is what my mission calls the people who bear their last testimony at zone conference. You give one your first zone conference and your last. It wasn't really long, like I said I still have a lot of time so it was weird to talk as if my mission was almost finished.
We got two new investigators this week! A father and her daughter from English course. They are SO AWESOME, like the best ever. Rosa is 15 (this concludes my record of teaching teenage girls in literally every city. SO FUN!) We are excited for them. They are so cool. Rosa called us to invite us to a family party with her. We couldn't go but we are planning on baptizing the whole family. So I'll keep you posted.
Another MIRACLE. There is this family here that doesn't come to church. They haven't been coming for like 8 years. Sorella Tapia told me they have been close to Sorelle in the past, but at this point they aren't at all. We have tried to call and set up appointments many times, but they never answer. BUT turns out the senior couple here, the Hansens are really really good friends with the family. So we got a call on Friday from this lady (Sorella Ricci) inviting us over with the Hansens to make panzerroti with them. We got to meet them and it was sooooo awesome. We had such a nice night with them and taught a really good spiritual thought. They have a little girl who’s Emma's age and she is so cute! She also just started piano lessons and I taught her to play a song on the piano. Turns out we really won over their hearts because they called us two days after the appointment and invited us for Christmas dinner!!!!! (Pranzo) The best part is Angelica (the little girl) isn't baptized and doesn't know much about the church so we hope we can teach her! So awesome. Oh yeah, also they call me "the Sorella who makes really bad panzerroti" because I was so bad at it and my companion was a panzerroti making prodigy. Ha so funny.
We had an awesome experience with the ward this week. We went to a rest home...but it was a really beaten down one for people who don't have any family left to take care of them. It was sad! We all were hanging out and singing and the people were looooovvvinnngggg it. Then it was the missionaries turn...my wonderful companion decided
that we should all sing Feliz navidad and wear some sombreros that the anziani found in the church. We ended up singing and dancing (I have video) and it was soooo funny and everyone loved it. They had us do it twice! It was sweet. Sometimes on the mission I pause and say, "How did I end up doing this?" I've done some crazy cool things and loved every minute of it.
I guess I'll turn over to my Christmas message. While we were all at the rest home we were able to talk with all the people there and you could just tell we were one of the best things that had happened in their lives in a long time. I just really felt that I was spending Christmas in the way the Christ would have. He didn't hang out with all the cool people in Jerusalem. He found those who were lonely, hurting, and in desperate need of care and love. I was glad I was able to do something that He would be happy with. I have also loved this Christmas season testifying of Jesus Christ to EVERYONE. He lives. I am so thankful for this knowledge, and so thankful for two Christmas's in Italy to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Don't forget Christ this Christmas!
Vi voglio bene assai! I really miss you all tons. Can't wait to see you in just a little bit.
Buon Natale! Merry Christmas!!!!!!!
Love,
Sorella Brunson
