Sicily is the Land of Happiness

Buongiorno!!!

Man.  Can I just say it's super hot.  Like so so so so hot.   And humid.  Ty, wanna switch?  I could handle the New Zealand weather right about now.  But Besides the humidity, Italy is the best mission on the planet.

Speaking of planets, funny story… While walking the other day and we ran into these two old men who were like, "Sorelle!!!!" and they motioned us over to come talk to them.  We started talking about the importance of families, super normal conversation.  All of the sudden, BAM they start talking about UfOs. Then one old man told us this suuuuuper long story about a time he saw gray aliens when he was a child.  Mama Mia.  Italia.  Then they told us that a new planet was just discovered, like yesterday, a planet just like earth really far away?  Is that true?  I don't exactly have my weekly Time magazine subscription here in the mission.

This week was good, like always.  First and foremost, one of the best things about this week was that we got 3 free granitas!  They are literally the best things in the world.  Sorella Embley and I were just like...man how do you describe these things?  And we came to the conclusion that you can't. They are like a slurpee.   If a slurpee is a motel six then a granita is one of those really nice five star New York hotels.  Or if a slurpee is the yogurt at McDonald's, then a granita is that cream brulee that we ate on the cruise.  Avete capito? Have you understood?  Good.  Moral of the story, before you all die you must eat a granita from Messina, Italy.  It's part of "enduring to the end” hahah.

Anyway, back to taking about missionary work.  It's great!  We got a sweet referral from our friends Namalie and Kushan.  They are seriously so cool.  But we ate soooo much food at their house.  I had to eat 5 plates of couscous.  They were like, “devi mangiare.”  (You muse eat!)  It was so yummy!  I almost died after though.

This week we got to see pretty much everyone we are teaching, so good!!  Here is a list to help you...

-Abagail, super cute 15 year old from the Philippines.
-Patrizia and Jada, mother and daughter.  Been taught for a long time.  They really need the gospel (ok everyone needs it but especially them).
-Maria, we found out that her brother is a member with the craziest conversion story. He was about to take his life but heard a voice that stopped him…then he met the missionaries and got baptized.   Wow.   Maria is soooo cool.
-Iolanda, She’s Polish and so sweet.  She is reading the Book of Mormon but can't come to church because of work. That's a huge problem in Italy.  It's hard though because getting a job is hard here, so if you have a job and have to work Sunday's and you quit that job it's super hard to find another one.  In Iolanda’s case she is a badante, which means she lives at an old women's house and takes care of her all day, so she can only leave for little bits of time, and the mornings not at all.  Pray for a miracle!

We are working with some others but those are the main ones, plus helping lots of less active members and new members.  And we have lots of potentials who we are working with at well.  Whooo hoooo.  I love
them all.  The people here are awesome.  Sicily is soooooo crazy.  In the best way.  I know I’ve said this before but I wish I could write about every lesson we teach in the mission field.  Teaching lessons is the best.  This week we had a special one with a member who’s having a hard time getting back to church.  I really felt like I needed to be frank with her and told her very clearly that she needs to be partaking of the sacrament every week and remembering the covenant that she made with Heavenly Father when she was baptized.  I told her that's why we go to church.  She looked at us with tears in her eyes and said, "you’re right."  We hope she will start coming back soon.  I know that church is so important!  It's not important because we check off the "church box" and now we can say we are good people.  Church reminds us of what we are doing with our lives, and helps us remember who we are following, and why.  When we take the sacrament it helps us remember!

Just know I am doing good and that we are seeing so many miracles every day.  I feel chill and happy and so tired which means that we are working hard!!!!!!

This week in church we talked about FHE.  Family home evening is the best thing ever invented.  I'm so thankful for our slightly dysfunctional family home evenings.  Even if the opening hymn is, "Once there was a Snowman" every week and no one seems to be listening, keep doing it!  It will bless your children like it blessed me.  So challenge of the week from your favorite Italian missionary:  Have Family Home Evening!!!

I love you all and am thankful for your support and prayers.

Vi voglio bene
Sorella Brunson
